Dennis Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta) and Elaine Helfer (born in Donalda, Alberta), were his parents. She is of German as well as English heritage. She attended in the William E. Hay Composite High School situated in Stettler (Alberta). She worked and lived at the farm of her family alongside her three sisters: Trena, Tammy and Tara. When she was waiting in theater line the scout of a modeling agency was able to spot Helfer.
